Shopping The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale kicks off today through August 6th and I look forward to it every year.  I have pieces that I bought that are as timeless as they were when I first brought them home.  Sadly, a few people had already told me that the plus size options were “not so inspiring” and, when I logged into today, I absolutely agree. This is the first Nordstrom Anniversary Sale that I had to really hunt to find the gems. I really hope that the Nordstrom buyers take that into consideration when planning next year’s sale and realize that they need some more plus size options – not just a couple pages in a catalog and a few afterthoughts in a department.

Here are a few of my favorite things from the 2012 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale:

10 Obsessions From Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ~ Fashionita+

1. This Vince Camuto Contrast Trim Blouse is one of those pieces that is timeless. I love the contrast trim – adds a nice visual element to a typical white blouse. They also have this blouse in a houndstooth print.

2. Fall is fast approaching and I still am dyin’ for a fab cape to wear around town. This tweed cape from Steve Madden looks like it will fit the bill nicely, no? It also comes in a lovely cobalt color.

3. Speaking of jackets – I LOVE this Lafayette 148 New York Asymmetric Leather Jacket. What I don’t love – the almost $1k price tag. Really?  However, during the sale, it’s just a mere $640. I’ll be looking for a more moderately priced version, like the malt color of the Bernardo Scuba Topstitch Leather Jacket.  [Update:  after publishing this, I found that the Lafayette 148 Jacket already sold out.  Guess someone didn't mind the pricetag]

4. Another stunner is this rust colored Bernardo leather jacket. I absolutely adore leather jackets with a bit of sass.

5. A perfect wardrobe staple is a tweed skirt and this Nic + Zoe Tweed Flirt Skirt is something that can be worn for a few seasons. I can see this paired with some fab knee high boots.

6. If you looked in my purse right now, you’d probably shoot me because I have cosmetics everywhere and am in dire need of a good cosmetic case. I finally found one that fits the bill – this Nordy Girl pouch from Rebecca Minkoff.

7. There’s something about this kate spade new york ‘lissa crossbody bag that has me wanting to add it to the wardrobe.

8. As y’all know a gal can never have too many shoes, these Ferguson Pumps from B Brian Atwood are breathtaking. I’ve heard from my gal Manouschka that Brian Atwoods tend to run a bit small so keep that in mind should you order.

9. I will never forget this – one Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, Stuart Weitzman had a pair of flannel oxfords with a bow that I absolutely adored. When I finally made the decision to buy them, they were sold out in my size. I never forgot about those shoes and have an ebay alert should they ever be listed on there in my size (shush – it’s the first time I had my heart broken by a shoe, g’head, shake your head). Anywhoo, the moral of the story is when it comes to shoes, seize the day because it MAY sell out, especially during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. This year, Stuart Weitzman has a flannel kitten heel that I’m about to go take a looksee at. It also comes in a black/tortoiseshell combo, another combo that I adore. After my recent Cooking With Sneakers incident, I think a few kitten heels are needed for my shoe arsenal and these will be perfect for fall.

10. Finally, I’m a bit of a beauty junkie and I always find some great lovelies to add to my collection. I’m torn between two of my favorite brands, both of which have fab anniversary kits for this sale:  Bobbi Brown’s “City Twilight” Anniversary Set and Smashbox’s “Studio Groupie” Anniversary Kit. Decisions, Decisions.

Summer Lovin’ With Macy’s

Lately, I’ve been finding that when it comes to plus size shopping, if I find something from Macy’s – I am better off getting it online than in stores. The plus size departments in the Macy’s around me are either in the basement (King of Prussia), in the furthest corner of the store, hidden from all, with a teeny tiny selection (Plymouth Meeting) or non-existent (Suburban Square). The only store with a decent plus size department is over the bridge in the Cherry Hill Mall and, while I love to visit Jersey from time to time, I live in Manayunk and I don’t go there as often as I used to.  The best thing about shopping online with Macy’s – cash back and online coupons!

Here are some of my favorite summer finds from Macy’s that may or may not be in my shopping cart waiting to be checked out.  I’ll never tell *wink*

Summer Lovin' with Macy's ~ Fashionista+

1. This Spense dress just screams summer simplicity. I am obsessed with the crochet detailing and the a-line cut. Pair it with Boutique 9′s Gennifer Platform sandal and you will look perfect for that garden party.

2. Another summer breezy dress is this Printed Empire Waist Dress from INC International Concepts. The colors are light and airy and that waist will get the thumbs up approval from even Clinton and Stacy.

3. The hot pink color in this Calvin Klein Sleeveless Draped Top will give that wow factor whether it’s on its own, with a suit or nestled under a cozy sweater.

4. I love the simplicity and the neckline on this AGB Top – perfect for the hot summer months with shorts or capris.

5. My sweater section of the closet looks like an ode to the open cardigan. However, I can’t stop obsessing over finding the perfect one that looks fabulous over a sleeveless dress – until now. I saw this Ralph by Ralph Lauren Chirin Three Quarter Sleeve Shawl Collar Cardigan and I know this will last me many a season. Ralph has never let me (or my closet) down.

6. Looking for a basic maxi skirt that will last you more than the summer season and is comfortable? Check out this Calvin Klein Maxi Skirt.

7. Finally, these muslin colored trousers from Jones New York Collection are always fashionably chic! Pair them with this fab coral top and a nude stiletto and you will look like a tall cool drink of water.

Fall Into Fashion With IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel

IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel  is another one of my favorite plus-size retailers. Every single item that I have from them is so well made and is timeless – a worthwhile fashion investment. I have learned over the years that when you buy quality, it will last.  IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel can mix trendy and classic for pieces that will always make you look phenomenal.

Here are a few things that are on my “must get” list for this fall

Fashionista+ - Fall Into Fashion - IGIGI by Yulia Raquel

1. I adore this TRIBECA top – the detailing and color is stunning and it will be a great transition top from summer to fall.

2. Wide leg pants are HUGE for fall and the KARINA Wide Leg Pants would be perfect with a sassy pair of high heel platform oxfords from Stuart Weitzman.

3. There’s something about a crisp blue shirt with white trim that has this executive air about it. This GAIL Cotton Blouse is definitely being added to my wardrobe for those “meeting moments” where red might not be the best option.

4. Another trend for fall: Color Blocking. IGIGI hits the mark with this LEAH dress with an autumn shaded border.

5. Also – as all things red & crimson are “in”, the FRANCESCA dress has that perfect shade of Louboutin red and it can go on or off the shoulder. I especially love it paired with the OBI Belt.

6. I adore accessories and IGIGI has some seriously stunning ones. The REGALIA Hard Body Clutch  would be perfect for those date nights and holiday parties – and the champagne color hits that neutral/nude trend.

7. Want to be bold this fall – well the DAHLIA dress fits the bill with its burnout detailing in a shade of orange that will rival any fall tree.  Pair it with the HAVANA Cross Body Satchel and these gorgeous Rachel Zoe Annie Pumps for a total win!
